Description:Cerebellar granule cells (CGC) are the smallest but the most abundant homogenous neuronal population found in the mammalian brain. They are produced by rhombic lip and can be found as thick granule layer at the cerebellar cortex. Granule cells are characterized with spherical soma, short and unbranched dendrites and thin axon. The axon extends from granular layer to molecular layer where it bifurcates into parallel fibers. Cerebellar granule cell dendrites receive excitatory input from mossy fibers and inhibitory synaptic input from Golgi cells. They are the only intrinsic excitatory neurons and have been suggested to contribute to cerebellum motor learning and helping the development of computational modeling.;
